Hey there!
Welcome to my new website! I've completely
overhauled the old colours and layout to create this
beautiful design. In this update post, I want to
show you everything that has changed and what is
expected to launch soon.
New layout and colours
Fooble v5 features a brand new colour scheme. My website started out with a blue primary colour over a year ago, switched to green a few months ago, and has now returned to a shade of blue. But not quite blue. I've settled on an angled gradient ranging from light to dark purple. The background and foreground colours have also changed, but not so drastically. Light mode is currently not available, but will be implemented soon.
I've also completely discarded the old layout. I've switched from a one-page site with modals to a multi-page layout. Therefore, a navigation bar is necessary. As I'm not a huge fan of navbars, I've implemented a sidebar on large devices instead. Due to spacing problems, small devices still need a top navbar.
New pages
As I said, the page is no longer just one page. Therefore, there are lots of new ones for you to discover!
Home
The first page you'll see is the 'Home' page. There you can find my social links, two sets of statistics (rather than three as before) and details of my technology stack.
Projects
Next is the 'Projects' page. The old hover cards have been replaced by brand new static cards that finally feature the project's logo and a short, handy description, as well as the familiar links to the GitHub repository, the project's website (if it has one) and its details page. You heard right! Instead of a details modal, the new website features an entire details page with longer descriptions and a 'Share page' button.
Updates
And now, a completely new page: 'Updates'. When the Fooble website was updated, I implemented a static green banner at the top to inform users of new content. I didn't like this, but it was the only option with the single-page layout. Now that the website has a multi-page layout, I can finally implement an update system similar to a blog. Clicking on the update card redirects you to a details page similar to the projects details page. Instead of a description, however, you'll see text like this.
Language
On the old page, there was an option to choose between two languages. English and German. Like the dark and light mode toggle, this feature is currently unavailable on the new website, but will probably be added in future. I haven't added it yet because I was unsure how to handle the update system. I don't want to write the articles in two languages, nor do I like the idea of using a translator for it. If you have any ideas about the best option here, please reach out to me via Discord or email.
Other stuff
A number of other new features have been released:
- Status page
- Discord bot for my German Discord server
- Beta system
- Lots of background/admin stuff
CSS Gradient Generator
My CSS gradient generator now supports multiple colours! I've also improved its responsiveness on mobile devices.
Password Generator
I also updated my password generator. The password strength indicator is now better than ever! It can even detect things like repeated characters. This improved indicator lets you type in your own passwords to check how secure they are, instead of generating them. Please note that this indicator is not 100% accurate. The website is also now mobile responsive.
QR-Code Generator
The QR code generator has also been updated. Firstly, it has a new theme colour. Rather than a similar shade of blue to the password generator, it now features a unique shade of green. Now, let's take a look at the new features: You can now choose from a range of QR code sizes and view your most recently generated QR codes. This is perfect if you accidentally click on the new 'reset' button ;D! Last but not least, the website is now mobile-responsive too.
What's coming next?
A lot of other things have changed behind the scenes. I've switched to completely new server infrastructure, set up my own admin panel, and created my own image library system. Projects weren't previously loaded from a database, but they are now. This took a lot of time and effort, but I'm still not finished. Expected features are:
- Discord Bot adjustments
- Theme toggler on the website
- Multiple languages on the website
- Further improvements to the website
- link.fooble.dev
- Finishing other projects
- Improving the database structure
- Advanced timezone support
- Filter options on the updates and projects site
